Patrol Division

The largest and most visible component of our department, our Patrol Division is the backbone of the Southampton Village Police. Service-oriented and highly responsive, they respond to all manner of calls, from a vehicle lockout to a burglary-in-progress. Comprised of five squads—each consisting of one sergeant and two officers—our Patrol Division operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They’re responsible for a wide range of law enforcement activities aimed at maintaining public safety and order within our community. All members of our department begin as patrol officers; seasoned officers then move on to specialized units, as delineated below.

Community Response Unit (CRU)

Addressing quality-of-life issues and improving public safety, while building positive relationships between law enforcement and the community.

CRU is a specialized team tasked with enforcing Southampton Village codes and addressing community-specific issues through proactive engagement and targeted initiatives. Our CRU officers work collaboratively with residents, businesses, and other local organizations to address concerns, establish trust, and foster relationships. Issues addressed by CRU include:

School Resource Officers (SROs)

Working within Southampton schools to promote a safe and secure learning environment for students, faculty, and staff.

Comprised of a team of two officers, their primary role is to serve as a liaison between the police department and the schools while fostering positive, trusting relationships between children and police officers. Responsibilities include instructing students in the D.A.R.E. prevention program, patrolling grounds, monitoring entrances and exits, and responding promptly to any security threats or emergencies that may arise.
